2021-2024 · SXEMA exhibitions & public programmes

Digital art
in public.

The public-facing part of SXEMA: I built an artist community, curated its exhibitions and created spaces to exchange ideas about digital fashion, generative imagery and creative technology.

A community
that kept growing

Within SXEMA, I brought together a community of around 70 artists working across 3D, digital fashion and neural image-making. We exchanged knowledge, developed work and presented it through a series of digital exhibitions.

Each year I spoke about developments in fashion, digital clothing and neural networks, while organising exhibitions that made these practices accessible to a wider public. My role was to create the programme and the conditions for artists to show their own work.

Two pavilions,
one week

For the Moscow creative-week programme on 3-9 July 2023, we were given two pavilions: Digital Fashion opposite TSUM, and a separate Digital Art pavilion in central Moscow. I curated the exhibitions and assembled a programme of 32 speakers.

Over the week, the programme connected digital fashion, CGI, neural networks and contemporary digital art. Talks gave visitors a way into the ideas and processes behind the exhibited work.

From exhibitions
to education

Public events also created new collaborations. A conversation with representatives of the Kaliningrad region at a 2021 creative-week exhibition in Gorky Park became the starting point for my proposal for a School of Creative Industries in Gusev.

For me, exhibitions and education were connected ways to make creative technologies available beyond a specialist community.

Beyond the fashion pavilion

SXEMA’s public practice moved between different kinds of spaces: an art pavilion, immersive exhibitions, live stages and our own showroom. The format changed how people encountered the work - from looking closely at a screen to sharing a room or a concert with projected images.

Art and live performance

At REPEAT on Supermetall, digital work entered the setting of a music event. At the MHPI concert in October 2022, generative visuals became part of a live stage production.

A space of our own

Our Supermetall showroom gave the community a physical meeting place. Large displays brought the artists’ digital work into the room, connecting everyday studio life with exhibitions and public encounters.

Moscow Fest: the open call

SXEMA and the Agency of Creative Industries invited work for two programmes: digital art and digital fashion. Poster by Kirill Chirkov; the publication credits Kirill Chirkov and @meta.clair as the respective exhibition curators.

Behind the screens: MHPI Halloween

For our university partners, we brought the artists’ animations into a Halloween event at Supermetall. This post documents the playback setup and my hands-on work launching the visuals on the screens.
